Brief Description:  Whack-a-mole (Flight X)

0.3 flight time, once around the pattern. In an attempt to isolate the leak location to the suspect joint that I have been messing with, I had a brainstorm. I wrapped the joint with a piece of firesleeve and tie-wrapped that into place. Now, when it leaks, the firesleeve will be soaked, right? So I buttoned it up and did once around the pattern (also increasing my wind tolerance and crosswind tolerance today, while working on the tail-up main-wheels rolling takeoff). On return, opened the cowling to find the back of the right side of the oil cooler soaked as expected, but the firesleeve around the joint was perfectly dry! So that leaves roughly two possibilities - the fitting into the oil cooler body is leaking (something else I put together, so it has to be suspect), or the oil cooler itself has cracked with all this fooling with hoses. If the gods of oil containment were trying to mess with me they couldn't do a better job. I am literally chasing leaks around this oil system. If it was a problem with Jabiru's design or Sonex's design, I could righteously be pissed at some company and call for help, demanding fixes to these problems. But it's not. It's all my own oil cooler installation that continues the frustration. The downside of either of the leak possibilities mentioned is that I now have to break into joints that are good to get at what might be bad!
