Brief Description:  Vert stab installation - part 2

Removed all the vert stab bolts. Drilled out the lower hinge. Removed the lower hinge pin. Removed the stab. Ground on the elevator weldment the very aft most side of the drive horn. 3. Also ground on the vert stab root rib attach angle at the spar to add a little more clearance (I could see where the elev drive horn had left a mark. 4. Reversed the bolts on the root rib attach angle so the heads are forwards and the nuts and washers aft - because these too were hitting the elevator drive weldment. Trimmed the t-deck skin a little more at the vert stab forwards fitting - it was still hitting / bending this skin, and more cut away doesn't even show because it's under the leading edge of the vert stab (and the tail fairings cover whatever opening is made). Put the vert stab back into position and moved the elevator repeatedly. 5. Ground the right side skin and a little into the vert stab root rib to gain more clearance for the elev drive horn. 6. Ground the left side skin and root rib same as the right side. Finally achieved clearance everywhere between the elevator drive horn and the vert stab all the way to the up stop. Pulled the vert stab back off to debur the side skins and to paint the drive horn. Painted the drive horn. So now it's even less assembled than it was when I started, but elevator travel is full and to print. Check that travel before bolting the vert stab down for the last time and grind the drive horn and vert stab as required to get full travel. It would also help to be on the forwards side of the tolerance band in positioning the h-stab on the fuselage.
