Completed the fabrication of the inboard aileron pushrods by cutting and welding the end fitting in place. Recall that I had previously modified the end fitting by removing the shoulder so that a weld could be made and not increase the tube diameter. This is required so that the tube can be inserted through the nylon ball that supports the outboard end of the tube in the rib. Picture 1 shows that I completed the end welds as well as four button welds that were added to ensure fixity of the critical component. The buttons were later filed round and the entire assembly polished to ensure easy fit through the ball fitting. Picture 2 shows the final position of the tube when attached to the torque tube. I adjusted the fit of the nylon ball by adding one thin washer to the stack to insure smooth rotation of the ball. Next the pushrod was polished to ensure that motion of the tube through the ball was effortless.
