Brief Description:  Mounting provisions for control torque tube

I thought it might be easier to access some of the flight control features before removing the forward fuselage from the fixture. I wanted to locate the control stick torque tube. To do this, I had to figure out where the seat back would go and weld a mounting bracket to it. By the way, I think the seat back square tubing should go on the forward side of the bulkhead. One of the 11x17 drawings appears to show it on the backside with trimmed flanges, I trimmed my flanges to prepare for the installation, but will now have to repair that.
I had to modify the way I install the aft heim joint bearing because the pivot location is lower than shown on the plans. You must keep the torque tube low in the fuselage to allow the pushrods to have clearance during motion under the floorboards. The pivot location does not allow the use of a simple angle bracket as shown in the plans. Instead, a "U" shaped channel was fabricated as shown in picture 2. This allows bolting of the top flange to the tunnel provisions that were fabricated as part of the fuselage while lowering the heim joint mounting hole. After a significant amount of time wondering why my plane is different than shown on the plans, I noticed that one of the sheets of the plans shows the torque tube pivot point higher than it is now drawn in the details. I suspect that Dick changed the geometry in the latest variant of the plans to get more stick throw (and decrease sensitivity). At any rate, the new bracket was fabricated which allows location of the torque tube.
