The left wing was reinstalled. The fuel pick-up tubes were installed in each wing, clocked and tightened ensuring that they were positioned at the very bottom of the tank, and would not interfere with the flapper door motion. Next, cork gaskets were made for each access cover, and the covers were installed with a thin layer of sealant on each side. I came back to look at the covers about an hour after installation and noticed that the gasket was migrating out of position. (Gasket was squeezing out from between the rib and cover plate) Perhaps I had too much torque on the screws? I looked on the Vans Aircraft forum and saw that this was a somewhat common problem for people who used cork gaskets. The general consensus was that cover plates could be installed using just the sealant, and no gasket. In retrospect, this is what I did on my RV-4 and it has worked fine for over 20 years. So, this is what I did for the Nexus. I should also mention that the fuel drain bung fitting I bought was from an RV-12 fuel tank. I did not realize that the RV-12 used such a big NPT thread on this fitting. When I bought the fuel drain valve that works with this size, it was HUGE and very ugly (and draggy). As a result, I spent a bit of time trying to make a smaller installation. I bought an adapter from Earls (Summit Racing) that would allow the use of a smaller drain valve. Then I recut the NPT threads in the bung and adapter to allow the valve to sit all the way down. Since it is an NPT thread, this was a bit of a process to make sure I did not remove too much and bottom out the valve.
