Brief Description:  Alodine and prime

I set up 2 tables in the yard and decided to use a small roller pan to alodine the small parts and the seal-a-meal bags for the longer parts and spars. I put on my suit (this time with the respirator) and poured about 2 cups of alodine in the tray. I let the small parts soak for about 45-60 seconds. I then rinsed and set the pieces on the other table. I continued till I ran out of small parts. I cut a piece of the bag roll about 8" longer than my longest spar. I then brought it in the house and used the sealer to seal one end. I then went back out and fillled the bag with about 1/3 gallon of alodine, plus the stuff I had already in the tray. I put in the long pieces (one at a time) an rolled up the ends. I layed them flat on the table and swished iit back and forth for about a minute. The color looked good and I rinse and dryed on the table. Once all the parts were done, set up the area for priming. I re-read the paint gun instructions and placed the chicken wire rack between two tables. I then used a new hose with the spayer. I mixed one part primer to one part catalyst. You need to wait 30 minutes after mixing before you can spary. I lowered the pressure on the compressor and brought a piece of 4x8 OSB to practice on . Alfer a few minutes, I was ready. The primer went on perfectly. It dried within a few minutes. Cleanup was easy and at 3:30 I shut the compressor to clean-up (graduation party). After the party I worked for a little while longer.... I began to asssemble the front spar. I squeezed my first rivet! Tomorrow I will work on the skins and buck my first rivet!
