Supplemental--- Piper Factorry Tour
I visited Vero Beach last week, where I visited and participated in a 2 hour tour of Piper Aircraft factory. I would highly recommend this tour to any and all Van’s kit built aircraft builders, and those just thinking about building an X aircraft. Piper builds all of its components in house except for the engines and the Garmin and other LRU’s, (they build the panels though) and that in turn makes for a very extensive tour of the complete factory including the finishing Paint department and a lot of other departments and sub-departments. Basically as a customer’s order is received for a new aircraft a build invoice is generated, the ball gets rolling and a completed aircraft leaves the factory a few months later. No aircraft are built without an owner. (BTW, As I was taking the tour a Braizilian owner of his brand new Piper Meridium, turbine powered, a $2.1 million aircraft arrived and took delivery as I watche him and his friends fly away back to Braizil),
As you all know who are building X-aircraft such at the RV-10 that you are beginning and finishing most of the steps of the Piper factory. That is you are a 1 person factory. And that is impressive.
