Brief Description:  wrapping up

Temporarily installed right elevator, then aligned counterweight to HS with a clamp so elevator lies exactly in trail. I then had to figure a way to drill through the horiz stabilizer rear spar bushing into the elevator horn (see pic 1). The final hole is 1/4", but if you just stuck a bit through the bushing you would scratch it up. Van's recommends a drill bushing, small bit, then size up to a 1/4". I cut off a 1/4" headset jack plug, removed the innards, then used approx a 1/8" drill with some tape wrapped around it until it fit snug in the drill bushing. I then slid it carefully into the spar bushing and drilled into the horn (pic 2). The elevator was then taken off the HS, and the hole drilled out to 1/4". The left elevator was done the same way. Right elevator was attached to HS for storage. Next, I moved on to the trim tab. I fit the pther piano hinge half on the tab, clamped it in alignment, marked the inside first hole (closest to the camera in pic 3) since a clamp won't reach here, drilled it out, clecoed, then proceded down the hinge drilling it out using the elevator rear skin/spar holes as a guide. Took everything apart, deburred, primed the hinge half, then riveted on. I tried the 4 inch yoke, but a bent some of the hinge eyes, so I switched to the rivet gun and a bucking bar that reached around the hinge. Worked well, then did some test fitting of the tab to elevator. Tomorrow, I will work on bending the piano hinge wire where it comes out the end (it must be bent and tied with safety wire to the spar so it doesn't work itself out).
