Brief Description:  Nose gear tube changed- Starter & solenoid rewired

Somehow while we were doing the weight and balance, we let the nose gear tire on a 1/2" piece of wire that pierced the tire and punctured the tube. So today, we took the nose wheel off and replaced the tube and re-inflated the tire to 30# and re-torqued the axle bolt. See Image #1. Also notice all the oil on the floor as a result of the pre-oiling and draining the preservative oil from the cylinders....... The wire instructions for wiring the Sky-tec starter were confusing to say the least. We had different instructions from Van's, Sky-tec, and Aerotronics. With the starter and fire wall solenoid wired as suggested by Van's, the starter would not turn over. Van's instructions and drawings clearly stated to remove the jumper wire seen in Image #2 but when I called Sky-Tec they said the starter would not function without the jumper in place. They said that they didn't know how to wire the 4 terminal fire wall mounted solenoid. So, I wired as suggested by Jason at Aerotronics. We have a diode from the "S" terminal with the starter wire to the "I" terminal and then grounded this terminal. We did away with the wire from the "I" terminal to the small terminal on the starter. This wire was recommended by Van's but when in place the starter would not function. After re-wiring every thing, I turned the Master and turned the starter switch and listened to the beautiful sound of a spinning starter. Of course we still have all the spark plugs out and so the engine didn't start. ..... I hope to start the engine tomorrow. I hope Keith will be able to help us adjust the carb.......I called Vern Darley, the DAR from Falcon Field, and he said he could come down and our inspection this Saturday!!!!!!!
