Brief Description:  EAA tech conselor inspection-1hr. transition train

Mr. Vern Darley, an EAA tech advisor, a CFI, an A&P, & RV builder, came down from Falcon Field at Peachtree City for his second EAA inspection and also to give me some transition training in a RV. I flew for 1.1 hours and had a ball. It had been 9 months since I had been in an airplane and had never been in a RV. It flew like a charm!!!!! I particularly like the responsiveness and the way when you pushed over the nose, it just screamed! I had worried about slowing a slick RV down for landing but found that I had no problem landing! I made 3 full stall landings without difficulty and they were plenty short using essentially the same numbers as I had used my Cherokee 140. I was flying a 6A today and guess that the 9A might float a little more. I love the RV and am so glad that I chose one of these to build!!!!!!!!
The inspection went well though we several problems that will be easy to correct. We had not safety wired the gascolator, 2 bolts didn't have 3 threads showing and we will need to take a washer off them. This was where we had just added the aileron trim and hadn't allowed for the extra thickness. The rudder bottom is down about a half inch into the air stream on the front and the fiberglass will need a little trimming. We had a #4 rivet head in the pitch servo mounting plate with a smiley face on the head. This was one of 5 rivets on this plate and actually one that we had added in addition to what the plans call for so we had left it. Vern liked the way we have been marking our bolts and overall the finish of the plane.
