Brief Description:  Closed with glass vert & horz tips

We finished forming and fitting the left horz stab tip & elevator tip. The tips needed some work to get them to align properly. We needed to deepen the flange on the stab tip and actually made a short cut on the tip to get it to conform to the shape of the elevator tip. We then got out our West System epoxy and when the foam forms were in place in the right horizontal tip and the vert tip, we wet a sheet of fiberglass and enclosed it in plastic wrap and cut it to shape. We then placed the fiberglass over the foam and left it to dry. It appears to have done OK. We couldn't finish the left horz tip today because we had to fill in the defects we created to get its shape to conform. We will glass it tomorrow when we put reinforcing strips in the tips we glassed today. The West System components can be seen in Image #1. The fiberglassed end cap can be seen in Image #2 and the finished results in Image #3......I am concerned about balancing the elevator before we rivet the elevator tips in place finally, but I can't find a procedure to do it. All I can find is that the elevator is nose heavy and should be balance after painting. I will leave a thread on the Van's Air Force Forum.
