Brief Description: Setup horz stabilizer & drilled it
After reading the manual last night, I found that having drilled the boltholes in the forward attach angles earlier when I was assembling the empennage at Alexander Tech was a mistake. They were to be fitted and measured very accurately so the bolts would pass through the center of the longeron flange. I was troubled all night about this so the first thing we did when we came in was to check the sweep of the horz. stabilizer and then check to see if the pre-drilled holes in the angle would center over the long. flange and they did perfectly! Having drilled the longeron and doubler, we made a spacer to raise the front spar slightly and bolted it in place. Then we had to set the angle of incidence by placing a drill bit under the rear spar (see Image #2) We then checked the incidence by comparing the tooling holes in the inboard ribs. All things lined up nicely after we increased the size of the drill by 1/64th of an inch. How is that for accuracy? Tomorrow, we will drill the rear attach horns seen in Image #1.
