Brief Description:  Shot rivets today - Worked better than squeezer

Today Claude decided that we liked to drive rivets better than squeeze them. This is a landmark for me for I have dreaded this terribly. We were able to drive rivets much faster and more accurately than with the squeezer. However, it meant that I had to sit or lay (or is it lie?) in the fuselage and drive those that Claude couldn't reach from outside or buck those he couldn't reach or see from outside. We were able to rivet most of the areas left in the 705 bulkhead. Seen in image 2 are some of the rivets driven. There are a few more we can do on Monday but some under that flange you see just to the left of the circle in Image 2 that we will have to put in blind rivets from the backside. This is not in the plans so we will have to call Van's to find out what type of rivets to use. We had to drill out 2 rivets today but that is a much lower percentage than ewe have had and they were drilled out without any deformation of the rivet hole. Claude and I were going to the Gym regularly for our cardiac workout until this building began, but since we started on this RV9, we have been working hard but not doing any aerobics. Last week, Claude brought out his bike and today, I brought one out so we could remedy this lack of aerobics. We rode about 2 miles today in the heat of the day with the temperature hovering just under 100 degrees. When we finished, we were "finished" so we called it a day. I cleaned up some of the mess in the hangar and carried a trailer load of boxes etc. to the dump site. It will look a little better on Monday when we get back to work.
