Brief Description:  More Panel Design Fun

Over the last couple week I have been plauing around in CAD and Photoshop working out some panel designs.

I took measuments from the fuselage to ensure that my CAD drawing was going to mate with the airframe. Everything is looking good so far.

This latest design is made to be quite modular. The panel will be made up of five separate components.

1) The panel frame that attaches to the airframe

2) Pilot Sub-Panel which takes up the left 2/3 of the panel and holds the EFIS, GPS, and backup gauges. Plus whatever other little bits I deided to add (hobbs, ELT swich, ect)

3) The Radio stack sub-panel to the right on the pilot panel. I haven't decided how I want to space out the radios just yet. One day I would like to add a GNS430W to make my bird IFR capable. I may add the tray to the stack and wire everything up, so when the time comes I can just drop the unit in place and add the antennas.

4) Passenger sub-panel. Right now I am planning to have the glovebox and an in-dash DVD player / stereo on the far right side of the panel.

5) Switch / Control sub-panel. Attaching below the main panel this bar runs the width of the panel and will hold all the switches, engine controls, heater push-pull, lighting controls and a few other things.

I took this modular design route to make upgrades as easy as possible. With this arrangement, I can make a major change to the panel with a minimum of new metal. Also, the switch can stay with the plane while I remove the other sub-panels for changes. In addition, I can order the fram now and then have the other panels cut as the design is finalized later in the build.
