Brief Description:  Drilling Elevator Horn

Today I mounted the elevators to the stab for a final fitting and made a aluminum template to get the distance for the spar to the center of the rod end exactly 13/16”. Then after mounting the elevators, I borrowed a ¼” center from Les that he uses on his lath and center punched the drill location on the horn through the center bearing. I then took a ¼” diameter nylon bushing with a 3/32” I.D. and removed one elevator and drilled through the bushing into the center punched point. I then removed the elevator and opened the hole to it’s final .248 size. The results are perfect and with the tool for the rod ends, I can even change the rod ends and get it back together if need be with the same precision. This is the way to go on this procedure, but don’t forget to clamp the elevators in the 0 degree (trailing) position).
