I thought the faring might work out right off the plans and instructions, but I was wrong. After insuring there was no twist in the gear leg fairing and taking a million measurements, (see the next entry) I cannot get the fairings in line with the centerline of the plane. I called Vans and talked them through what I had done, and basically they said hand built planes are not perfect an I should average the difference from the top to the bottom of the leg fairing which is off by about 3/16”. I have decided the remake the fairing using a different method to keep the twist out then what is offered in the instructions. I will clamp the rear edge of the fairing with two angles to keep it straight before drilling the hinge and then rivet the hinge in place.
Centering the faining to fuselage centerline, but no joy it's off 3/16"
