While working with the transponder (GTX 23), decided to change how the GTR 20 radio brackets are mounted to the bottom of the GTX 23 transponder behind the instrument panel.
• Removed the current brackets and radio. • Used the brackets previously made to locate holes in the Garmin supplied GTR 20 brackets for plate nuts. • Marked and drilled holes in the Garmin brackets for three nut plates per bracket. • Countersink rivet holes for nut plate attachment • Rivet nut plate on the two Garmin brackets (2 brackets, 6 total nut plates) • Attached brackets to GTR 20 radio.
This eliminates the custom brackets previously made and simplifies the install/removal process. Now, the GTR 20 simply slides into place under the GTX 23 transponder, and then is held in place by 9 AN8R8 screws to the nut plates.
