Brief Description:  Avionics - Transponder Install

Happy Labor Day !!

Designed and built the transponder brackets to support the tray that is part of the GTX 23 install kit. The transponder is remote, interfaces with the GDU 460 EFIS.
• Measure the panel cut-out from the GDU 460 install, turns out it is exactly the width I need, and the length, while about 1” long, and certainly works. This served as the base to hold the transponder tray. There are four countersunk holes in the top and bottom of the tray for flat screws.
• Measured and cut two strips of aluminum L-Angle the length of the tray support.
• Test fitted the L-Angle with the tray, attached with side clecoe clamps and test fitted behind the panel. The support tray and brackets fit perfectly in the space between the brace and the aft baggage skin.
• Drilled and countersunk holes for rivets to attach the L-angles to the support tray.
• Temporarily screwed the transponder tray to the support with screws and nuts, and test attached in the aircraft, fits perfectly. In this orientation, the transponder is upside down, I don’t think it cares and at least it will be right side up when the aircraft is inverted.
