Brief Description:  Fitted tail surfaces

Since I had problems getting the horizontal stabs to fit, I spent some time today getting this worked out.

I eventually realized (mainly by reading the manual) that the stabilizer was fitted at the factory, so unless something was dropped and bent - it should fit just right. I checked for obvious damage - there was none, so it had to be something else. I tried swapping everything around left-right to see if I had the wrong combination. It was apparent that the stab I had installed on the left side would fit either side with the support tube bolted in place as marked from the factory. And the one I had on the right would fit the left side better than it did on the right - but still 'purdy tight'. So I must have had them reversed. The two stabs are otherwise identical except for the slight bend in the front spar of the stab that I had on the right the first time. What really clued me in to this solution was the relationship in the bolt-holes for the AN3's that hold the stabs on at the support tube. The holes didn't line up the way I had them initially - but after swapping them everything looked right.

There was still enough friction in both sides that made them rather tight and required a considerable amount of banging to get them on. I didn't want this to be a problem after I cover these tail surfaces, so I decided to clean all of the slip-fit areas where the stab tubes slide over the mounts. I sanded off all of the paint and lubed them with Boeshield for corrosion protection. To my amazement, that little bit of paint made all the difference. They slipped right on with no problem!

This time, I marked them so I can remember where they go...
