Brief Description:  Vertical Stabilizer Skin Riveting Part 1

We riveted the vertical stabillizer skin onto the front spar and ribs. This was done using a rivet gun and bucking bar. This was my first attempt at bucking rivets on the actual kit components. We practiced on some scrap material before getting started to get the air pressure set correctly for the rivet gun, and also to get a feel for the length of time to operate the rivet gun so that the rivets would be properly set.

I have a 3X rivet run and for the 3/32 rivets we were using, the best air pressure ended up being 22 lbs psi. The time was right at 3 seconds to set a good rivet.

Once we got going, the process was repeatable with good results. It was a tight fit in some places to get my hand and bucking bar inside the skin to set the rivets, but we managed to get it done.
