Spent today & yesterday retrofitting the two control sticks. Since I had to de-pin the Dsubs anyway, I went ahead & downsized the shells to 9-pin in lieu of 15. This will save me a little room & I think it will make for a cleaner look.
Since I have 10 wires pinned & only room for 9 in the Dsub I took the ground out through the backdoor & will connect it directly to the airframe. That applies only to the Pilot's control stick. The Copilot's ground gets connected to a discrete input that cancels all stick functions when a switch is thrown. I requested this option for my Young Eagles flights. Past experiences have taught me that little hands tend to wander & since the grips have 9 different control functions, I felt it best to have the ability to disable the electronics at my discretion.
Speaking of “Young Eagles”.., What about those “Not So Young Eagles”..?
