Brief Description:  An Inconvenience...

From 12/10 - 12/12

Wired up the starter control & master relay. Moved a few wires initially placed forward of the firewall back aft to the instrument panel. They will be connected to the standby alternator's voltage regulator later this week.

Began wiring up the E-MAGS; left first since this magneto has two additional leads that the right does not. These two leads are for the tachometer sensor that pipes information to the G3X modules. The tachometer lead is shielded & the shielding becomes a backup ground for the system, terminal 1. The primary tachometer lead is connected to terminal 6. Terminals 2 & 3 are connected via a jumper, terminal 4 is P-lead & terminal 5 is power.

Once all the wiring was connected to the control plug, it was time to attach it to the magneto. This is when the "inconvenience" occurred. The control plug is held in-place by two anchor screws. I found that the brass threaded insert for one of the two anchors would not accept the screw. Further examination revealed that the insert was placed a tad too deeply & therefore, the short 2-40 screw could not bite onto a thread.

A call to Trent this morning at E-MAG prompted the removal of the magneto & its shipment back to Texas for repair - at no cost to me. E-MAG is yet another great company within the aviation sector that stands behind its product. Thanks Trent for the great customer support!
