Brief Description:  Antenna Mounting & SteinAir Feedback Update...

Having not received feedback from SteinAir regarding my WH-00125 harness question posed to them a couple days ago; I again reached out for follow-up. Allegedly, Vans Aircraft, over the last five years, has changed the specifications on the WH-00125 fuselage harness a couple of times. My harness is apparently the latest generation & as such; the connection leads to the panel are long.

As I awaited feedback from Stein, I tested a few options as how to best combat the harness issue. I really did not wish to cramp 18-24" of additional wiring into the central tunnel as this option appears prone to future problems. Currently, my thinking is to simply lay the harness in the tunnel, run it forward to the firewall, then loop it upward & back to the two D-Subs connectors at the panel. The length of each harness appears sufficient to accomplish this & they can be easily secured to the panel/subpanel ribs. A minor issue is that the forward tunnel cover plate will need to be modified to accept the exit of the harness from the tunnel. Not a big deal & in the end, a much cleaner look.

Additionally, I removed the factory installed rivets & doubler plates from the two fuselage VHF antenna mounts. I then had to enlarge the holes to accommodate the #8-32 antenna mounting screws. The central antenna connection port hole also needed to be step-drilled to a larger size. After removing the burrs & cleaning up the shavings, I installed the two antennas. To complete the job; I will need to fabricate the antenna's RG400 coaxial cables in the next week or two.
