Brief Description: Completed Riveting of Skins to Rear Spars
Trouble in the Workshop -
Noticed today that I missed an important step during the assembly of the elevators & failed to rivet the ribs to the rear spars. I had it in my mind that these were to be set with pop rivets - they are not.
I contacted Van's builder's assist line & was advised that I could use CherryMax rivets here in lieu of the standard rivet. Problem is; one cannot get a rivet puller into such a tight spot.
As my loving & always encouraging wife told me: "You're going to make mistakes. Move on & continue". She also mentioned that every manufacturing project has scrap cost built into the budget. This scrap cost is $338.00 + freight + time.
Moving forward to tail cone assembly & awaiting new elevator parts to arrive from Vans.
