Began retrofitting the circuit breaker box assembly to enhance safety & prevent future problems. I am no engineer (although I did play one on TV) & right off the top of my head I can come up with several ways to improve the design. But.., sometimes we do not realize a problem exist until we see the smoke.
Anyway, it is what it is & I need to adjust. The key concept here is to ensure that the bus bar remains clear of any contact to the airframe & has ample room to "float" within the structure as the aircraft, ever so slightly, flexes & vibrates during flight. To do this I have wrapped the bus bar with thick-walled rubber hose & trimmed the flanges of the support structure to accommodate its new bulk; a Stein Air recommendation. Now the circuit breaker panel can breath - something I forgot to be aware of during round one.
Tomorrow I will install two nutplates & reattach the assembly. I do not anticipate any problems - but, I've been there before...
