Brief Description:  Moving Forward...

As I wait to hear back from SteinAir regarding the previous post, I moved on to cutting, trimming, crimping & installing the negative leads to the 48-tab grounding block. Before tackling the project, I visited Stein's video library to review the terminal crimping episode. Personally, I did not know there was a difference between Big Box terminals & what an avionics shop provides. As Stein emphatically states, “do not use automotive terminals in your aircraft”! They are inferior & his video #002, "Terminals: Basic Overview of Aircraft Electrical Terminals", explains why.

To date, there are 41 negative ground leads that come from the collection of electronics known as the "Instrument Panel". Using RED insulated 22-18awg 1/4″ series Fast-On QD receptacle crimp terminals, I cut the buddle of wire to length, strip the connector ends, & crimped away - 41 times! When I started this project, I purchased Stein's Panel Technician Tool Kit & I am happy I did. It pays to have quality tools.

After connecting the negative leads to the terminal block, I secured my work & moved on to install the transponder antenna. Before that installation, I fabricated a doubler to aid in supporting the unit. This was a straightforward project & it is just one of several antennas that will need to be installed.
