Brief Description:  Remote Box Stack w/Hinge Modification

7/7 through 7/11 - After a few iterations, I believe I have nailed down a game plan for mounting the remote electronics on the copilot's side. As outlined in the previous post, I am attempting to stack the GTX45, GAD29 & GDL5. This is doable, but there are two issues in doing so. 1.) the rack for the GTX45 would sit below the outboard fuselage rail support structure & therefore it would need to be unmounted to remove the transponder for servicing. 2.) the stacking of the components would interfere with gaining access to the voltage regulator, which is mounted to the aft side of the glove box door.

To overcome these problems, I have elected to install a hinge to the aft edge of the GTX45's rack. The hinge will allow the entire stacked assembly to be tilted upward enough to remove the transponder and/or open the glove box door, thereby allowing servicing of either unit.

I am currently checking with the technicians at Stein Air to ensure I am not overlooking any issue with my stacking plan, such as EMF interference, heat issues, antenna shielding problems, etc.
