When I originally installed the rubber seal on the lower fairing of the horizontal fairing I trimmed the rubber where it met the attachment screws. I didn't do a very smooth job with the cut, and decided that the seal didn't need to be cut as you have access to the screws by just lifting the seal. Also the plans call for trimming off the upper lip of the seal, but it leaves small gaps between the seal and lower surface of the HS. I decided to also leave this lip in place. I ordered a replacement seal from Van's and installed it without any trimming and it looks a lot better.
