Brief Description: Fabricated Lower Elevator horn and doubler
I started by fabricating the lower elevator horn. I took a piece of 0.090" that was about 100 mm by 70 mm and bent it. I was not very happy with the angle since it was a little over 90 degrees. After checking measurements, I realized it had to be scrapped. My second attempt came out much better!. I then fabricated the doubler using an 3/4" x 3/4" extrusion that is 0.125" instead of the 0.093" called by the plans. I understand that this thickness is not very common in the U.S. and in fact, I believe that ZAC imports it from Canada. Anyway, checking with ZAC, it is acceptable to go up to the 0.125" extrusion. After completing all the required parts I proceeded with drilling the angle into place. Now I just need to figure out how I am going to drill the angle onto the doubler without having to hire a couple of squirrels to do the job from the inside! Well it's very late and I cant think anymore.
