Drilled the upper elevator skin. I have noticed by comparing the drawings from my first XL to the 03/07 drawings that Zenith has definitely taken steps to strengthen the elevator, The new plans call for A5 rivets along the center ribs and there is an additional bent strip of .040" connecting the upper and lower horns. I hate to admit this but I made a mistake when drilling the hinge onto the horizontal stabilizer. And I hate to say that this is a "repeat" mistake. On my first XL I measured 10 mm from the edge of the skin and drilled... once I took the hinge out for deburring, I realized that the holes were between 4-5 mm from the edge of the hinge. This was not acceptable so I ordered a 2" open hinge and riveted the hinge with A5 rivets. Well as you can see... I did it again. Well ... one thing for sure is that I should have a stronger setup.
