Brief Description:  Bonding of spar closeout

Spar closeout was fitted to center wing spar. Special attention was paid to alignment of the center lines of spar closeout and center wing. Upon alignment, all bonding surfaces were abraded w/ 40 grit and cleaned w/ Acetone. additionally, fuel line holes were located and drilled in main spar as indicated in the manual.

Spar closeout was bonded in place using Jeffco resin and flox. Again, all bonding areas were wet out first, and than flox/resin mixture was generaously applied to bonding surface of spar closeout. Additional detail was that two (2) wood shims made out from mixing sticks (1/8" thick) were used in between top of the spar closeout and main spar to keep bondline thickness uniform and equal relative to bottom bondline. These shims were later removed. Everything was held in place during cure using two clamps. Excess adhesive was cleaned up before it had chance to set.
