Brief Description: Conformal mount, top anti-collision beacon, part 2
We applied duct tape to the fuselage skin and to the beacon's bottom and sides...this serves as a non-fixant for epoxy. I mixed up a thick batch of West Systems epoxy with fast hardener, and mixed in microfiber for strength. I made it mashed potatoes thick.
I applied the epoxy to the mounting point. I used 1/8" thick nylon washers to create space between the fuselage and beacon, then screwed the beacon down (not too tight, but enough to close the gap. I wiped excess off the edges to make sanding easier. I used Turtle Wax to protect the mounting screw and wiring from adhering to the epoxy. I'll remove all this and sand it down in a few days when it has completely cured.
Applying the microfiber epoxy mix, and wiping the excess
Beacon in place with epoxy drying.
