I crimped a terminal to the end of the starter cable (25mm2 welding cable), then pulled back the insulation about an inch and soldered the joint. When that cooled I restored the insulation and applied three layers of glue-lined heatshrink for strain relief. I then cut my first hole in the firewall ready for a stainless passthrough.
