Brief Description:  1: Instrument Panel Cooling Vents

No pictures, but first up today I spent more time on the centre console. It wasn't latching shut properly, so I made up a new, thicker metal piece that goes under the lid. Is now much better, just took a while.

With the console out of the way I then removed the interior and took off the glareshield skin so I could cut out the ventilation holes. This is where my dremel again came into it's own. The little cut-off wheel makes short work of the thin aluminum skin material. You just have to be very careful that it doesn't bite.

With the two holes cut out I then filed and sanded smooth so that the opening was just a little smaller than the opening in my retainer brackets that I made yesterday. These will go on the underside of the glareshield and I don't want any part of them showing (other than the mesh that they are retaining).

With the holes done I then match drilled six screw holes for each, and then dimpled both the skin and retainer brackets for a #6 screw. Next I alodined and fitted nutplates, and then mixed up some lovely tank sealant goop (this shit gets everywhere) to hold the fine aluminium mesh. My bottom picture below shows the finished products.

Once the goop sets then I can screw the vents into place on the underside of the glareshield.
