Brief Description:  4: Cable Clamp Firewall Doubler

My last job for today was making up yet another doubler plate for the firewall. I want to use a couple cushion clamps to secure and neaten my main power cables, and do not want to simply fit nutplates straight to the firewall. This could cause localised stresses, and ultimately ... stress fratures in the firewall ... and that would be a disaster. This is why I'm fitting doubler plates anywhere I bolt something to the firewall, even if it's just a couple cable clamps. Gee, did I actually learn something from my Uni days ... "Mechanics of Materials" ... I only took the subject because I had to!

Anyway, I made a doubler plate, match drilled it to the firewall, did all the usual countersinking, smoothing, cleaning, alodining, priming and painting. Tomorrow I'll fit a couple nutplates to it, then rivet to the firewall.
