Brief Description: 2: Inspection Lights
|
|
Tonight I had a play with an idea that's been in my head for a while. My mate has installed perspex viewing windows into the under-wing access panels so that he can easily view the aileron bellcranks during his pre-flight.
I also read in another builder's log where he installed LED lights inside the wing to make viewing even easier.
I thought I'd take these ideas, add my own flavour, and see what happens. I found some neat little LED lamps online (gotta love ebay). I also found a small electronic timer that, when triggered by the push of a button, switches a relay on for a short time.
I figured I could have a button somewhere just inside the cockpit, within easy reach from outside. As I start my pre-flight inspection I could press the button which would turn on the LED's for, say, 5-10 minutes, at which time they would go off by themselves. With perspex windows in the access panels then it will be very easy to check the bellcranks.
Anyway, I rigged up the small parts and all worked well. Just one small problem....my timer only switches the LED's on for a maximum of 15 seconds. It was very cheap, so I'll just source another one with a longer operating time.

The LED's draw very little current. Just 300mA for all four.
