Brief Description: 1: Mounting the Vertical Stabiliser
|
|
Today I started off by mounting the elevator upper stop bracket in place at the very rear of the aft deck. I clamped it in place and then match drilled the three rivet holes and two bolt holes, and then riveted and bolted it into place.
Once this was assembled I could see that the factory made longeron was protruding the aft deck by a few millimetres, which meant the vertcial stabliser rear spar would not sit flat against the bulkhead. After double checking the drawings, I filed the longeron back flush witht he aft deck and bulkhead.
I also noticed today that on one of the drawings, tucked away in the corner, is specific trimming detail for the vertical stabiliser front spar. When I trimmed this a few days ago I didn't see the drawing detail, but luckily I needed to trim more of the spar, not less, so all good.
Next I set about clamping the vertical stabiliser in place and then adjusting until it was perfectly square to the horizontal stabiliser. I took forever doing this, but wanted it just right.
