Brief Description:  Evan's vintage tractor (trailer)

Connie kept a couple toy tractors and trailers that belonged to our sons when they were kids. The plan was to pass them on to the grandsons. Unfortunately, the tractors were stored all these years in a hot attic which caused some of the plastic parts to get brittle. As soon as Evan got a little rough with one of the wagons, the plastic wheels broke requiring a shop session to repair.

I began by making a couple spacers for the axle from the same material used earlier in fabricating the bushing for drilling the elevator horns on my RV-8. I then used a hole saw to cut two wood wheels just the right size for the wagon tires. These were epoxied to the treads, painted black, and then mounted to the new axle. A couple pop-rivets added to the wagon tongue for reinforcement and the toy was almost good as new. I also had to cut threads on the axles for some new retaining nuts.

My other grandson, Landon, is into trains and wanted a "roll away" table to slide under his existing train table. He has two little train sets and wants to keep both set-up on tables for easy access. His Dad supplied the material, I did the fabrication, and Connie primed and painted the finished product. It's a simple design consisting of a flat surface made from project grade birch plywood reinforced with some pine 1x4" slats on the bottom, some trim around the circumference to hide the reinforcing slats and provide a lip to keep train components from sliding off the table, and four castering rollers. This low profile table can be rolled under Landon's bigger table when not in use. It turned out quite nice.
