Brief Description:  Initial assembly & match drilling of ailerons

I began the morning by reinstalling my homebuilt metal brake on the workbench and making the final bends in the two aileron skins. Before making the bends, I taped a 1/8" wooden dowel in the trailing edge to ensure a proper radius.

Once the skins were bent, the left aileron was fully assembled and all holes were match drilled to correct sizes. The same procedure was followed for the right aileron. Both ailerons were then disassembled for deburring, edge dressing, dimpling, and priming. I plan to prime the reinforcement plates, end ribs, nose ribs and the counterweight (inside and out).

In my next shop session, the plan is to complete the deburring, edge dressing, dimpling, and priming. I should be ready to do the final assembly within the next 1-2 days. The final task for this evening is to review the GeoBeck DVD on final assembly (riveting) of the ailerons. I believe someone said the riveting of the ailerons is a bit challenging (the upper skin to spar). I also need to recheck the shop instructions. I believe there is some machine countersinking required on the lower spar flange.
