Brief Description:  Continue work on right flap

The first task on the schedule this morning was to get the right flap parts scrubbed and primed.

In reviewing the plans, I found an error in my earlier assembly of the left flap inboard rib and the attached actuator bracket (see image 2 below). I had thought the platenut was to be attached with a flush head rivet under the heavy aluminum bracket. However, upon closer reading the plans called for a longer rivet to go through the bracket, rib, and the nutplate. I drilled out the rivet from the shop head side and continued through the actuator bracket. The hole in the bracket was machine countersunk and the correct rivet was inserted and squeezed. The assembly is now correct.

After an assignment at the NMUSAF this afternoon, I spent additional time in the shop removing protective plastic from the right flap skins, dimpling, and some initial riveting. Everything is dimpled with the exception of some holes in very tight locations. With some help from Connie, I will get these final holes dimpled tomorrow using a Cleaveland tool designed for dimpling in close quarters.

Final preassembly tasks include some deburring and edge dressing. Then it will be final riveting and the flaps will be complete.
