Brief Description:  Final preparation of left flap components

I decided to use the two pin alternative for securing the flap hinge. This required removing three eyes from the hinge (one on the flap side and two on the wing). Rather than removing the eyes in the exact middle, I made the cuts slightly outboard to get away from the lightening holes. I fabricated a small pin retainer from some scrap aluminum and secured it to the spar with a nutplate and screw. The pins should be fairly easy to remove and insert with the flap hanging straight down.

After solving the hinge pin issue, I completed the remaining match drilling on all components. This was followed by deburring and dimpling. The bottom of the spar was machine countersunk per the plans. Most of the dimpling was straight forward, however, some of the holes had to be dimpled with the pneumatic squeezer. A few had to be set with a close-quarters female die, a male die mounted in a ram, and a hammer. Most of these were at the extreme trailing edge of the top skin.

All the edges on the skins and ribs were deburred and then dressed with the scotchbrite wheel. I used the Cleaveland edge bending tool on the trailing edge of the top skin. Hopefully, this will ensure the overlapping edge lays flat against the bottom skin when riveted. Tasks planned for the next shop session will be some limited priming, preparation of a V-block fixture (modify one used earlier for the elevators or rudder), and begin final assembly.
