Aside from the interior work, we added an alternate vacuum system and some nice wing tips from RMD. The new wing tips have landing and recognition lights mounted in the leading edge. They can be flashed when approaching the airport and switched to steady for landing and taxiing. On one of the first night flights following the installation of the wing tips, a controller at Dayton International Airport requested a repeat of our aircraft type saying we looked like a large commercial carrier (Jeff really liked his reaction). With the original landing light, the additional tip lights, strobes and rotating beacon, the Archer is hard to miss.
I don’t know how much longer we will own and fly the Archer but for now, it provides a great recreational outlet, enjoyment and the opportunity to stay proficient while building the RV-8. Eventually, of course, I will have to find some tail dragger instruction and get the rust off.
And that's all I have to say about that... for now.
