Brief Description:  Wings & Wheels Fly-In at MNN

Just got back this afternoon from the Marion Airport 1st Annual Wings & Wheels Fly-In and we had a ball. Dan Hempy, the organizer and fellow RV aviator, had invited a bunch of buddies to help with the event. So, a number of us flew in on Friday evening and camped overnight to be sure we were in place early Saturday morning when planes and cars began arriving. We had a good turnout and a great time Friday evening hangar flying after some burgers and brats on the grill thanks to Jeff Hazlett (Grease, that's his call sign and has nothing to do with quality of landings or cooking). Jeff and I arrived at about 1830 with the Archer full of camping gear and the other guys started arriving almost immediately. Dana Saucier came in with Will Westfall in his RV-10, George Mellen in his Cozy, and Jason Seavolt in his Piper Cub. We were also joined by Joe Strausbaugh who drove in and brought some additional gear. Saturday morning were joined by Sean Tofte who also arrived by land. Unfortunately, the weather on Saturday didn't cooperate but nevertheless, a few planes and cars did make it in and some of the pilots managed to get in 30+ young eagle rides for the youngsters. Dan also arranged to have the EAA Ford Tri-Motor there to provide airplane rides right out of the 1930s. Some of the other unique birds that made it in included an Ag-Tractor, B-25 Mitchell bomber, Navy TBM torpedo bomber, a Fairchild F24, and a Pietenpohl.

Did I say we had a great time even with the weather challenges! Looking forward to the 2nd Annual Event.
