Brief Description: Began balancing the starboard elevator
Spent a little more time today working on the canopy spacers. I decided the fit could be made better and after a couple hours work it did look much better.
A fellow RV-8 buiilder with an A&P license told me to balance the elevators separately on the airframe with the controls unhooked. So, I installed the starboard elevator and began remving some of the lead from the counterweight to get the elevator to balance in trail or slsightly up per Van's directions. I lightened the counterweight by drilling channels into the lead. I drilled two 1/4" channels from the inside surface to the outboard tip.
I did this task by starting with a #30 drill, then a #19, next a #12, and finally the 1/4". I also used a little Boelube to keep the bits from binding. Still have a little more material to remove.
