Brief Description:  Starboard wingtip and light lens

This is a "catch up" log entry covering two days in the workshop. My previous session ended with Connie helping me get the nstarboard wingtip positioned and match drilled. The past two days then concentrated on getting all the nutplates installed, skins dimpled, and fiberglass countersunk. I also had to install the stiffening rib in the trailing edge of the wingtip. There are about 38 nutplates in the wingtip so it takes time to do all the positioning, drilling, and riveting of the nutplates.

Another time consuming task is countersinking the fiberglass tips to accept the dimpled skin on the outboard end of the wing. The fiberglass is not very thick so I fabricated a small jig to back the glass and provide some support and guidance for the piloted countersink. I would cleco the 1/8" aluminum plate to the back of the nutplate hole and countersink using an angle drill and #6 countersink bit (carefully).

I also had to install some final nutplates on the port wingtip (ran out of K1000-06 plates earlier). I also had to do some final fitting of the light lens on the port side.

Last task for the day was to trim, fit, and drill the light lens on the starboard side. This is tedious and time consuming work but it's done. Still need to install nutplates on both tips for the lens.
