Brief Description: Service bulletin 14-01-31 (Part 4)
The reinforcing angles and doublers were clecoed in place and the center section riveted. I used solid rivets for this section and was able to use the squeezer. These were all -4 rivets and most were universal head. There were, of course, four that were flush because they will be hidden by the vertical stab spar.
I touched up any exposed aluminum with primer. Avoiding the occasional primer nick when setting rivets is almost impossible.
I set one of the called out Cherry Rivets in the doubler but didn't like the looks of the mandrel. So, I removed the rivet and set another CR rivet one size longer. It looked good but decided to send a picture to another -8 builder for a final ok. This is my first use of CR rivets so I want to be sure they are set correctly. According to the literature they are stronger than solids and are approved in Van's instructions.
