Brief Description:  Service bulletin 14-01-31 (Part 5)

Today I set all the Cherry Max rivets on hand attaching the new doublers, thru the spar web, and into the reinforcing angles. I opted for 4-5 rivets instead of the 4-4s called out in the documentation. The 4-4s seemd to leave too much of the mandrel exposed. The 4-5s seem to be a better choice with much less mandrel left exposed. I didn't have quite enough of the longer rivets so will have to wait until the 12th when a shipment from Aircraft Spruce is due. I also set four Cherry Max rivets attaching the doubler to the spar web (4-4s in this case). I have been careful to keep the manufactured heads on the thinner materials.

I found four #30 holes that were missed when match drilling the doubler so these were drilled with an angle drill. I had enough 4-5 CR rivets to set a couple of these.

Finally, I clecoed the inboard main ribs in place and match drilled the new flange angles to both the ribs and the spar. The angles were deburred, trimmed for 5/16" edge distance and riveted to the ribs. The ribs were then scuffed with scotchbrite and primed. They are ready to be riveted in place.

Last task for the day was to set all the solid rivets in the top and bottom stab skins (main spar). I had removed five rivets from the inboard edge to allow better access to the spar (that's 20 rivets total).
