Brief Description:  Service bulletin 14-01-31 (Part 2)

I have the new drill bits and rivet sets in hand so it's back to the shop this afternoon. I also picked up a couple cleco type C clamps that may be handy when it comes time to install the rib/flange modification.

I removed the final sixteen rivets as follows:
1) My rivets were installed with shop head aft and manufactured head forward so I began by center punching the shop head of the rivets
2) Each rivet was drilled about 1/8th inch deept with a #40 drill
3) Each rivet was then drilled again about 1/16th inch with a #30 drill
4) Using a very sharp wood chisel I removed the shop head of the rivets
5) The upper and lower reinforcing bars were removed

Next, I removed the rivet shanks from the reinforcing bars and cleaned up all the holes (both sides) in the bars and the spars. This was done by running a #30 drill thru the holes and deburring both sides.

Finally, I cut the two new doubler plates and deburred their edges. Hopefully, in the next shop session I will make all the cuts, get the match drilling done, and all the parts deburred and cleaned up so the parts can be primed. The only step then left will be to rivet everything together.
