After a fellow RV-8 builder dropped by to check my canopy fit and discuss the drilling I match drilled the plexiglass canopy to the frame. This was done with a #40 std bit going thru the glass and into the steel frame. Seemed to go ok with no problems yet discovered.
My next step will be to mark any final trim all around the circumference of the canopy. I will then remove the glass from the frame, make the cuts, and dress the edges. I will enlarge the rivet holes at this point to #27 in the glass. Need to check this size versus #6 screws in the event I decide to try screws rather than rivets (not sure yet). The glass holes will need to be deburred.
The frame will require the holes be enlarged to either #36 or #40 depending upon whether I use rivets or screws. I will probably start with the #27 and #6 screw tap to see how it goes. If I don't like it then I can always switch to #40 and rivets.
