Brief Description: New starboard storage compartment
I saw this idea recently on the website of an RV-8 parts supplier. It is a storage compartment created by boxing in the area just outboard of the starboard foot well. It requires a small piece of hinge at the bottom, some sheet aluminum for the door, and a latch. I just happen to have an extra flush paddle latch in the shop so decided to add this mod.
After beginning the project I came across a vendor that supplies custom floor carpets for the RV-8 that are not quite compatible with this compartment. The carpets are made to fit down in the foot wells and then extend out to touch the fuselage skins. The door on the compartment would block this small strip of carpet. Oh well, I will complete the compartment since it can be easily be removed (four screws) and decide later whether to go with the carpet or the compartment.
I still have some fitting to do and the latch to install during my next shop session.
